Geist Finance is a cryptocurrency project built on the Fantom blockchain. It operates as a lending and borrowing platform using the popular DeFi protocol called AAVE. Unlike other protocols, Geist doesn't have any governance or ownership structure, nor does it have a treasury for the protocol.

One unique feature of Geist is that it distributes 50% of the revenue generated from borrowing directly to users who have staked their Geist tokens. This serves as an incentive for both lenders and borrowers to engage with the protocol.

To further encourage participation, Geist has implemented a liquidity mining program. This program is inspired by Ellipsis Finance and is originally introduced on the Binance Smart Chain. Under this program, users can earn rewards by staking their Geist tokens. However, these rewards are vested for a period of 3 months and can only be claimed immediately with a 50% penalty. The penalty amount is then distributed to users who choose to lock their Geist tokens for the same duration. This mechanism ensures a consistent reward flow for those who demonstrate their commitment to the protocol by locking their tokens for the specified timeframe.

In addition to the rewards, Geist stakers also receive protocol fees. Furthermore, those who lock their Geist tokens also receive protocol fees and penalties from users who prematurely exit their token vesting agreements.
