Information about osmosis

Osmosis (OSMO) is a decentralized exchange (DEX) designed for Cosmos, a collection of independent blockchains that can communicate with each other through the Inter-Blockchain Communication Protocol (IBC), without the need for trust. Osmosis also supports assets from Ethereum and Polkadot ecosystems, which are bridged into its platform.

Initially, Osmosis utilized Balancer-style pools. However, it is transitioning towards a concentrated liquidity model that offers a more sustainable and improved trading and liquidity provision experience.

Being an appchain DEX, Osmosis has greater control over the entire blockchain stack, unlike DEXs that are bound by the rules of a parent chain. This level of control has allowed the development of Superfluid Staking, a security enhancement for the Proof-of-Stake mechanism. Superfluid staking allows the OSMO tokens held in liquidity positions to contribute to chain security and earn staking rewards.

The customization options offered by appchains also enable the creation of a transaction mempool with threshold encryption. This feature significantly reduces the impact of harmful Miner Extractable Value (MEV) on Osmosis.

The ultimate goal of Osmosis is to establish a cross-chain native DEX and trading suite that connects various chains through IBC, including Ethereum and Bitcoin. To achieve this, Osmosis has welcomed external developers to build a unique DEX ecosystem that encompasses lending, credit, margin trading, fiat on-ramps, Defi strategy vaults, NFTs, stablecoins, and more. The intention is to offer all the functionalities of a centralized exchange, and even more, while incorporating the trust-minimization aspect of decentralized finance.
