KlimaDAO is a cryptocurrency project that aims to create a transparent and public Digital Carbon Market to support climate finance worldwide. Since its establishment in 2021, KlimaDAO has traded over $4 billion worth of carbon credits and amassed treasury assets of over $100 million. It serves as the foundational infrastructure for the Digital Carbon Market and collaborates with organizations like Carbonmark, Polygon, Circle, and the Liechtenstein Bankers Association. Notably, the Polygon Network collaborated with KlimaDAO to retire over 100,000 digital carbon credits. KlimaDAO's digital carbon infrastructure is also utilized by renowned brands like Instagram, Nike, and Bentley. In March 2023, Carbonmark was introduced as a comprehensive platform for acquiring, trading, and retiring digital carbon credits, providing a user-friendly experience for institutional users. Carbonmark works in partnership with Circle for secure custody and conversion of digital carbon credits. KlimaDAO is distinguished as the first protocol facilitating a market for real-world assets (carbon credits) using DeFi 2.0 mechanisms, ensuring sustainable liquidity for the ReFi ecosystem. It has successfully incentivized the migration of 25 million carbon credits onto the blockchain, with 18 million held in KlimaDAO's treasury. By issuing the KLIMA token, KlimaDAO enables users to secure and retire tokenized carbon credits, participate in the governance of the protocol, mitigate ecosystem inflation, develop applications, and benefit from the protocol's owned liquidity.
